The 22nd Annual Sky Awareness Week (SAW) celebration will be held April 22-28, 2012. Its theme will be ... "THE SKY- Where Meteorology Meets the Heavens, the Earth and the Oceans!" The 2012 celebration will overlap the USA Science Festival in Washington, DC.

The goal of Sky Awareness Week is to get people outside, to “look up” and to see the myriad of cloud patterns and formations that grace the sky. Once someone has done this, they will be primed to look at all parts of their natural world and examine the patterns and shapes that tell about our very existence. For us, it is all about being an “Observationalist.”

Please check out our growing collection of sky imagery, as well.

Since 1991, more than 40 states and the District of Columbia have issued proclamations in support of this growing celebration. How The Weatherworks conceived and operates this annual event.

The National Weather Service, The National Weather Association, The National Science Teachers Association, the National Science Foundation, The Weather Channel, NASA's 'SCOOL (Students' Cloud Observations On-Line) Project, Polaroid Corporation and Dutch Boy Paints are among the many organizations that have made this event possible over the years. The event is routinely listed in Chase's Calendar of Annual Events.
