There is a multi-agency center in Boise, ID which provides national
coordination and other support in fighting forest, grassland,
and other natural fires. There is also safety and prevention information,
statistics, and descriptions of how remote sensing is used in
fire detection.

NOAA imagery shows the smoke plume at the height of the Los Alamos
Forest Fire. Lots of management, political and other fires resulted

NOAA GOES-10 imagery shows what forest fires and their results
are from a high altitude perspective. Three notable fires occurred
near Outlook, Wolf Point, and Sidney in Montana and imagery (including
time series) and detailed descriptions, provides a great science
lesson.
