Welcome to our Tornadoes Links page.

Although this page is similar to the "severe thunderstorms" page, it will key specifically on tornadoes. It is designed to be linked to our new Tornado book to be released by Colin Baxter Photography in April 2001.

We hope this newly formatted listing helps you more easily find the weather information you are looking for.

If you would like to recommend a site for inclusion, please let us know and we'll consider it.

If you find that a site doesn't work properly or that a link has become outdated, please let us know that as well. We'll update it promptly.

Until then, happy "surfing"!

NOAA/NWS - Tornado Climatology Resource
http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/ol/climate/severeweather/tornadoes.html
Lots of climatological tornado information compiled by the National Climatic Data Center.

NOAA/NESDIS - GOES Sounder Weather Analysis/Forecasting Support
http://orbit-net.nesdis.noaa.gov/goes/soundings/
Weather satellites provide more than just pretty images. Satellites can also probe the atmosphere to determine temperature and moisture profiles (and hence atmospheric stability), much like soundings by weather balloons. The resulting high resolution depictions can be used to identify local regions of potential severe weather development.

NOAA/NESDIS - Weather and Oceanographic Satellite Program
http://www.goes.noaa.gov/
Real-time and retrospective GOES imagery for up to 21 days; also, some significant event imagery and imagery from other weather satellites around the world.

NOAA/NWS - Field Offices
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/er/box/NWSpages.html
If you want to get to a National Weather Service Office's home page, try this listing.

NOAA/NWS - Interactive Page
http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/iwin/graphicsversion/main.html
Current weather warnings, forecast weather tables, more.

NOAA/NWS - Severe Storm Laboratory
http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/
Information about ongoing research, significant storm events, and much more.

NOAA/NWS - Southern Region Headquarters
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/oun/skywarn/spotterguide.html
It's an abbreviated version of the severe weather spotters guide; but, it's a great resource.

NOAA/NWS - Storm Prediction Center
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/
Current severe weather outlooks, watches, and discussions.

NOAA/NWS - Tornado Preparedness Guide
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/tornado.htm
Information about tornado safety preparations.

Stormtrack
http://www.stormtrack.org/about.htm
If you are into "storm chasing" and want to follow the exploits the old Storm Track (ST) and NIU Storm Chaser Homepages (SCH), this is the place. Tim Marshall and others have put together a web site that contains historical and other information about severe storms from the eyes of seasoned and trained chasers.

"Tornadoes" in Space!!!
Tornado-like events are not unique to Earth. NASA has discovered "dust devils" on Mars
http://explorezone.com/archives/00_03/15_dust_devils.htm and http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/marspath/dustdevil.html

and the SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) space craft (a joint NASA - European SpaceAgency project) has discovered tornado-look alikes on the Sun. Note that while this site calls them "tornadoes." that may not be exactly correct. A tornado by definition must be appended to a cumulonimbus cloud.

TORRO - Tornado and Severe Storm Research Organisation
http://www.torro.org.uk
If you are looking for global tornado information, this may be the best web site to visit.

WSI Corporation - WEATHER RADAR
http://www.intellicast.com/LocalWeather/World/UnitedStates/Radar/
Great United States radar image. Click anywhere on the map and it will take you to that area's local radar display!! Other weather information, as well, including Doppler radar velocity maps.
