Take a look at this infrared GOES (geostationary) satellite image from October 1, 1999. The image shown is from 0915Z (9:15am Greenwich Time or 5:15am EDT). Although there are many interesting features on this image, the most significant for us weather detectives involves the disappearance of the state of Florida. I can tell you that Florida is really still there, but we just can't see it in this image. If you think you know why, then click on "answer" to see if you are correct.
