| This GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) infrared / water vapor image pair shows an intense low pressure system (or cyclone) in the Gulf of Alaska. Notice how the clouds coil into the storm in a counter-clockwise sense. It looks a lot like a hurricane, but due to the location and season it is just a middle latitude low pressure system. |
